Introduction to Property Tax Notifications

The Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has commenced the distribution of property tax bills for the financial year 2026-27 to households in Salt Lake, Kolkata. This initiative aims to streamline tax collection and ensure residents are informed about their financial obligations.

Tax Rebates and Penalties

Residents who pay their property tax within the stipulated due dates will benefit from a 5% tax rebate, excluding any outstanding arrears. However, those who have not cleared their previous year's arrears will incur a 10% penalty along with a 10% interest on the total arrear amount as of March 31.

Payment Methods and Procedures

Taxpayers have the convenience of paying their taxes online through the BMC's official website, utilizing various payment methods such as debit or credit cards, net banking, or the Bharat Bill Payment System. For those preferring in-person transactions, payments can be made at designated bank branches within the BMC area during specified hours.

Impact on Tax Collection

With the introduction of property tax payments in wards 27 and 28, which include Mahisbathan and Nayapatti, the BMC has reported a significant 20% increase in property tax and mutation fee collections in the last financial year. The corporation aims to collect Rs 44 crore from property tax in the current financial year.
